3 Core Practices to Improve Course Enrollment
We’re not going to lie…
…a lot of big names in the industry and marketing gurus will tell you NOT to do the following.
Yet in our experience they work brilliantly and you should definitely give these three core practices on how to grow a podcast audience a try:
- Teach the HOW. Many will say, tell them the why and the what but don’t tell them the how. Nothing could be further from the truth. Instead show them HOW and get them to achieve a meaningful result. With all the noise out there, this is the best way to demonstrate that your paid program will deliver the results they want.
- Be realistic with your bonuses. Bonuses are great for getting someone over the finish line when they are considering enrolling. Instead of adding up tens of thousands of dollars in “value”, which may not even be real, make a couple targeted bonuses with realistic values. Focus your bonuses on handling an objection (like a prerequisite) or helping them achieve complementary goals to the problem your program or course solves.
- Leverage your content. This is often overlooked, when people want to increase enrollment and scale they frequently go straight to paid ads. Don’t get me wrong, paid ads are great if you have a proven offer and it is definitely part of my strategy. Nonetheless, most course creators produce tons of content and it disappears after a few days, weeks, or months (social posts, emails, podcast interviews, live videos). Instead of letting it expire, add a blog/vlog/audio section to your website. Embed your video/audio and then include a transcript. Bonus points for making a short article with it (AI can help you write it from your transcript and you can edit the final write-up).
By using these three core practices in your podcasting efforts, you’ll be surprised at how many website visitors, and students, you can attract.
The impact will keep on getting bigger over time and you’ll notice a snowball effect!
3 Podcast Tips to Improve Podcast Visibility and Course Enrollment
Speaking of snow-ball effects, here are three insider tricks to increase course and program enrollment using the material you already have on-hand.
That’s because, when you use a sustainable approach to your podcasting efforts, you’ll end up spending less time and money on this marketing approach in the long run!
Insider Trick 1: Commit to doing a podcast appearance
Doing a podcast appearance on someone else’s platform is already a wonderful way to get more visibility for your courses, coaching or online program.
You’ll get better immediate results than creating your own podcast because you are leveraging the existing audience of that show.
Once you’ve done the recording, don’t stop there!
All podcast hosts want to increase their number of subscribers and downloads. If you let them know you want to promote the episode they will usually be thrilled. When I hosted The Spiritual Voice podcast with over one hundred episodes, once I encouraged my guests to share their episodes in this way it became my best growth channel which made me delighted as the host.
Ask if you can get an embed code for your website, and if it is okay for you to put a transcript on your site. Let them know you’ll be linking to their podcast so everyone can subscribe. If they don’t want you to put the transcript then you can write a short summary or blog article around the interview content.
Make sure to embed the podcast player, put the transcript/summary/article and link to the original show. This makes it more likely your business will be found on Google, it allows you to share the interview through a link on your own website where others can see what you offer, and you can also send an email to your list with this value.
Insider Trick 2: Increase podcast visibility with titles and headings
Are you publishing blogs, videos, or podcast episodes on your website but not getting much traction?
Here’s a quick tip to increase your visibility right now: update your titles and headings!
Understanding Search Engine Optimization
Follow the steps below to learn how to harness the power of targeted keywords for optimized search engine rankings
Your blog, video or podcast title needs to include the exact words your audience is typing when searching online.
The difference between “stress reduction” and “minimizing stress” could be like night and day. From zero to hero. So how do you ensure you’re getting the right search terms?
The lowest budget method to find relevant search terms is to search on Google while letting it make recommendations. This isn’t very precise as you won’t know how popular the term is but at least you’ll know that others have used it.
The next step up the ladder is to use a professional search tool such as Ubersuggest (most budget friendly), SemRush or ahrefs (my personal favorite).
These tools will tell you the monthly search traffic with the exact term and the difficulty to rank so you can pick your battles. Once you type your title ideas, it will give you recommendations of similar and related search terms.
Once you’re done with the research, make a shortlist of all the terms you could use. Then make sure to include the search terms as part of your title and headings within your content.
…though another great way for you to gain more visibility is to share your top content piece in the comments of articles you’ve read online–like this one!
Insider Trick 3: Add technical URLs and internal links for easier podcast access
It takes a lot of work for you to produce a quality blog article, video, or podcast episode so it is important to maximize its visibility.
Understandably most people want to stay away from “technical optimization” as it can get quite complicated very fast. Nonetheless, there are two easy changes you can do to increase the reach of your content:
- Add internal linksAn internal link is a link from within your website to another page of the same site. The more links you have within your website to the same page, within reason, the more important this page will be perceived by search engines.Pick a top article, video or podcast episode from within your website. Then add 10 links from other pages on your site to this top content piece. Ideally, you’ll include a link from your homepage to the content page as a link from your homepage is perceived as the strongest signal.
When you link from one page to the other, the hyperlink text should be relevant to the destination content such as “guide to overcoming insomnia” if you are pointing to a guide on insomnia.
Keep this in mind as you publish new content, and you can always go back to add more links to/from previously published pages.
- Simplify your URL structureVery long URLs are not good and should be avoided. Keep your URLs to only a few words and avoid having too many slashes in the URL itself. The various algorithms favor content to pages with simpler URLs.Each time you have a slash in your URL, it tells the robots that this is a sub-topic and that it is of lower importance. So if you have 5 slashes in your URL then it signifies that this content is really not important!
For example, instead of having a URL like
“/2026/august/17/breathing-exercise/my-fve-tips-to-incorporate-a-breathing-practice-as-part-of-your-daily-routine/”
Try using
“/breathing-exercise-daily-routine/”
Just make sure you go back to edit previous URLs to configure a redirect from the previous URL to the new one.
That way people don’t hit dead pages, also known as 404 errors.
