Student Payment Card Details
This FAQ explains how student payment card details are handled and what to tell students if they ask about stored card information.
1. We do not store student card details
What is happening:
Some students may ask if their credit/debit card information is stored.
What you can tell them first:
- Reassure them that we do not store or keep any student card details.
2. Legal / compliance clarification
What is happening:
It is a legal/compliance issue to imply that we store card information.
What you can tell them first:
- Clearly state that we categorically do not store or see credit cards.
3. Payment gateway handling
What is happening:
All card processing is handled by a secure payment gateway, such as Stripe or PayPal.
What you can tell them first:
- Only the payment gateway processes the card; we do not have access to the card details.
4. Reference tracking
What is happening:
We only keep a reference ID from Stripe to track transactions.
What you can tell them first:
- This reference does not reveal the card details.
5. Invalidating payments
What is happening:
If needed, you can invalidate the Stripe or PayPal reference in WordPress.
What you can do first:
- Invalidating the reference will cause subsequent payments to fail, if necessary.
6. Communicating with students
What is happening:
Students may worry about card storage.
What you can tell them first:
- Never give the impression that we store or can see credit card information. Always reassure them that we do not.
7. Deleting cards from Stripe
What is happening:
Cards may exist in Stripe if they were previously saved by the student or customer.
What you can do first:
- Go to Stripe.com
- Search for the customer by email
- Open the saved payment methods
- Click the … menu
- Click Delete
8. Students removing cards themselves
What is happening:
Students may want to remove saved cards from their account.
What you can tell them first:
- They can go to /my-account/
- Click Payment Methods
- Remove the saved card
What TDN will handle
- Support if any payment references need to be invalidated.
- Help confirm that no card data is stored or visible inside the website.
