I cannot upload an image

What is happening

WordPress is not letting you upload files.

What you can try first

• Try smaller images
• Rename the file
• Refresh and try again

What is happening

You may see issues like:

• The image does not upload
• The upload gets stuck
• An error message appears
• The image does not appear in the media library

This is usually caused by file size limits, unsupported file formats, browser cache, or temporary server issues.

Before contacting the technical support team, please try the steps below.

Step 1 — Check the Image File Size

Large images may fail to upload.

Recommended image size:

• Under 2MB is best
• Maximum recommended: 5MB

How to reduce image size

You can compress the image using:

• Riot-image Optimizer
• TinyPNG
• CompressJPEG

After compressing, try uploading again.

Step 2 — Check the Image Format

WordPress supports the following formats:

Allowed formats:

• JPG / JPEG
• PNG
• GIF
• WebP

If your file is HEIC, TIFF, or BMP, it may fail to upload.

Convert the file to JPG or PNG and try again.

Step 3 — Rename the Image File

Sometimes special characters in the filename cause issues.

Avoid using:

• #, %, &, ?, spaces, and special symbols

Bad filename:

My Photo #1 (final).jpg

Good filename:

my-photo-1.jpg

Rename the file and try uploading again.

Step 4 — Refresh the Page

Sometimes the upload tool stops working due to a browser glitch.

Try a hard refresh:

Windows: CTRL + F5

Mac: CMD + SHIFT + R

Then try uploading the image again.

Step 5 — Try Another Browser

Open the website using:

• Chrome
• Edge
• Safari
• Incognito / Private mode

Then try uploading again.

Sometimes browser extensions block uploads.

Step 6 — Upload the Image from the Media Library

Instead of uploading inside the page editor, try uploading directly.

• Go to WordPress Dashboard
• Click Media
• Click Add New
• Upload the image

If it uploads successfully, you can insert it into the page afterward.

Step 7 — Check Your Internet Connection

Large images may fail if your connection is unstable.

Try:

• Refreshing the page
• Reconnecting to the internet
• Uploading a smaller image

Step 8 — Try Uploading a Different Image

Upload another small test image, for example under 500KB.

If that image works, the issue is likely with the original file.

If the Issue Is Still Not Fixed

Please send the following information to the TDN Customer Service team for Technical Support:

• Screenshot of the error message
• The image file you are trying to upload
• The page where you are uploading the image
• The page builder used: Classic Editor, Elementor, or Divi
• The approximate file size of the image

This will help the support team diagnose the issue faster.
