5 Marketing Myths You Should Forget Right Now
Let’s do a deep dive into the myths so you start a new era of profitability by revamping to the very best email marketing plan!
Myth #1: I will annoy my prospects and customers
If you keep on selling, selling and… selling, then yes you will annoy your customers. But that isn’t a good idea.
Your subscribers will quickly grasp that you aren’t there to help them and you’re only chasing the dollar bill.
Instead your emails need to provide value. When you solve challenges and provide insights your help is appreciated and it positions you as an expert.
The current email and the ones you’ve been receiving from me are all focused on giving you maximum value.
To write a valuable email make sure they are actionable. What can your reader do with this information? How will it make their life easier? How will it move their business forward?
As long as your emails are valuable it is safe to send multiple emails per week. Everyone loves a helping hand.
Myth #2: I don’t have enough time to write emails
Writing takes time. I get it.
But you don’t have to be the one writing them.
You can designate an employee to write all of your company’s marketing emails or you can work with an agency like us to outsource this responsibility. When you outsource you still have control over the emails with the opportunity to provide edits and perform the final approval.
You can also use modern email systems such as ActiveCampaign to automatically send a weekly digest of your new blog posts. You only have to configure it once… and never have to worry about it again.
Myth #3: Email marketing is expensive
We recommend ActiveCampaign which is the same software we use for our company. We’re also a reseller which enables us to provide additional support to our clients at no additional cost.
ActiveCampaign starts at $15/month for up to 500 contacts. Obviously the bigger plans with more contacts and functionality are more expensive but if you reach those higher tiers you should be making more sales.
I don’t recommend MailChimp but for those on a tight budget they have a free tier at the time of writing this. There are other similar services available.
More importantly, you are losing sales if you aren’t sending out marketing emails. If you can’t afford the software that’s exactly why you need it.
Myth #4: Email software is too complicated
I get it. I’ve helped a lot of clients move out of Infusionsoft/Keap because they were overwhelmed by the complexity of the platform.
If the other features intimidate you, you don’t have to use them! Like my boxing coach used to say, baby steps for the win.
Start off by setting up a simple form to collect emails and then sending out ad hoc emails to your list. Don’t worry about segmentation right now. If you are publish a blog then review myth #2 as the system can automatically send emails on your behalf when you have new articles or videos.
If you have a managed website service plan with us which includes content update requests then we can take care of the basic setup for you. Aren’t sure which plan you are on? Then email our customer service team at help@thedigitalnavigator.com to find out.
Myth #5: I don’t have anything to say
Whenever you or your team is talking with clients, write down their questions. Whenever you are explaining something, write that down too. Use this to build a list of email ideas for your email marketing plan.
This is exactly what I do and it only takes 2 minutes to jot down an idea in my list. When I sit down to craft my emails, I pull out my list and start typing.
You’ll be surprised at the endless possibilities of valuable email topics.
